Suicide in Islam

Births of this year so far are:
Liyan (Romena C.)

Deaths:
Mohammed Fazal Chowdhury died in jail after hearing that he will get 30 years for the death of his wife, S.Miah. Their son is now an orphan in less than a year. No one is talking or mentioning his death but by hiding it is doing no good either. I wanted to say something in my status on facebook but the words are not coming out. His wife was murdered and he died by suicide. These words are very powerful. SUICIDE. HOMICIDE. MURDER. This past week, I have been having trouble sleeping. It got so bad that I felt knots in the back of my head every time my head hit the pillow. I felt out of control. I felt as if somethign was coming after me and there was no way to stop it. Weird as this is to say, I thought about S.Miah this week and upon hearing about her husband's death, the pain and worrying went away.

I told my mom this and she said that I worry too mcuh and its as if I'm waiting for this stuff to happen. Before anyone dies I have this feeling as if something big is about to happen. The feeling does not go away. This past week was the worst.

When a Muslim hears that someone has passed away, he recites: To Allah we belong, to him we return. By stating this we are admitting that the person always belonged to Allah. That they returned to their creator. This life is temporary. My father always tells us this and lets us know. Many believe they are immortal through their actions and deeds, as if they will on forever.

What is our purpose in life? Why were we created? In the Quran it states: "And I (Allah) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone)". (Surah Adh-Dhariyat Verse 56)

To a Muslim, life is like a stop. Just as you when you go on a long journey you have stops along the way, so too is this life. Our final resting abode is the Hereafter, where depending on our actions and deeds we will find comfort or pain.

Allah states about suicide in the Quran as such:

"And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you".
(Surah An-Nisa Verse 29)
In another verse of the Quraan, Allah says: "And do not throw yourselves in destruction". (Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 195)

What a sad post. It is always awful when we see how many horrific things are going on throughout the world. I love the quotes that you added from the Quaran. Islam is a beautiful religion. I am a Baha'i and we also believe that this world is just part of our journey through the many worlds of God.
